 Wu was born in 1936 in the Mituo village. At the age of 16, Wu learned to produce soya sauce at Kuechiachen in Kaohsiung. He returned home and set up the Kuechiahsiang Soya Sauce Plant in 1961 in partnership with his four brothers.
 Now, the second generation operates the plant, which is more than four decades old. They still produce the soya sauce manually, follow the traditional procedures and use natural materials. The product is catered to Kaohsiung, with Gongshan as the largest market.
