Lin was born in 1953 into a farmers’ family in Kuangho. He studied in Southern Taiwan College of Technology. Having received initial military training, he returned home and cultivated the fields.
Lin knew how to absorb and apply new technologies to improve productivity. He taught fellow farmers about it. Lin was elected the village master and one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Farmers”. In 1995, the President met him in recognition of his contribution to the village.
In 1985, the “International Farm Youth Exchange” program appointed him as one of “Grass Roots Ambassadors”. These “ambassadors” visited Japan and looked at its agricultural villages, life and culture.
