Chang was born in 1898 in the Mituo village. He learned to perform shadow plays from his father Chang, Lee.
Chang acted in both lyric and motion plays in an outstanding style. The audience loved to see him perform “Chai, Po-Chieh”, “Su, Yun”, “The Eastward Expeditions” and “The Westward Expeditions”. He founded the Yonghsinglo troupe, which was famous in South Taiwan.
He handed down the performing skills to his sons, Zuo and Suei. The younger brother was famous for performing motion plays.
