 Environmental pollution has largely reduced the fishery resources along the coast. But inshore fishing is still the economical mainstay of Mituo. At present, 32.8% of the Mituo inhabitants are in the fishing and aquacultural industries. The percentage is by far the larger, as compared to 26.6% which is Kaohsiung County’s average.
 In Mituo, 530 inshore-fishing or aquacultural members work on their own.
Most of them dwell in Tahti, Kuokang, Nanliao, Yencheng and Chiokang villages.
